Electrical Faults

Electrical faults involving tripping RCDs can be an annoyance to people. Sometimes they can seem to trip for no known reason, but there are some signs to look out for when RCDs and circuits trip.

For instance:

• Have you just plugged something in or turned a light or socket on when the trip happened?
• Have you recently turned on an appliance or plugged in an item that has some sort of heating/thermal element? These may not trip straight away until the element has started to heat up causing the fault to appear.
• Do you have outside sockets that may have got wet or items left plugged in may have got wet?
• Do you have outside lighting that could have water ingress from recent rain?
• Have you noticed any damp patches on walls or ceilings?
• Have any lamps or lights blown, this can be enough to trip an RCD sometimes?

Sometimes it can be more involved that noticing some of the things mentioned above and that is where we step in. With our years of experience, a specialty in fault finding and our specialist equipment we can fault find and diagnose the fault for you. Sometimes its possible to completely repair the fault on the same visit, sometimes we can temporarily get the power back on and provide a quotation to repair fully if the job is more involved.
